June 17th, 2020 – INDIO, CA – Jazz on Twelve, the Coachella Valley’s premier live jazz series, returns to Twelve Cocktail Lounge and Wine Bar at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Sunday, June 28th with acclaimed jazz pianist Yuko Mabuchi. Mabuchi began playing classical piano at the age of 4 in her hometown of Fukui, Japan. As a teenager, she immersed herself in American R&B, hip-hop and blues. She fell in love with jazz after hearing the music of Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock, and after high school she entered the An Music School in Kyoto to study under pianist Kunihiro Kameda. After graduating from the conservatory, she began performing as a soloist and as a member of a local jazz trio.

In 2010, Mabuchi came to the United States to study at the Music Performance Academy in Alhambra. While there she had the opportunity to showcase her talent at some of Los Angeles’ top venues, including the Catalina Jazz Bar, the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, and the Levitt Pavilion Concert Series.

Mabushi recorded her first album, Waves (Vista Records), a collection of original compositions, in 2011. Returning to Japan in 2013, she performed with her trio at the Jazz Spot J Shinjuku in Tokyo, the Fukui Jazz Festival, Osaka/Neyagawa Jazz Convention, Mokkiriya and Riverside in Kanazawa and appeared monthly as a soloist at Keio Plaza, Tokyo.

Mabuchi returned to the U.S. to record My Life (Vista Records, 2014), her second collection of original compositions, featuring Latin jazz great, flutist Justo Almario, and smooth jazz saxophonist Andre Delano.

The Yuko Mabuchi Trio (Yarlung Records, 2017) was recorded live at the Brain and Creativity Institute’s Cammilleri Hall at USC with Del Atkins on bass and Bob Breton on drums. Her most recent project, Yuko Mabuchi Plays Miles Davis (Yarlung Records, 2019), features five tracks written by the legendary trumpeter and three original compositions.

Jazz on Twelve is a monthly live music series offering unparalleled musicianship and breathtaking views of the surrounding desert. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.
