STORY IDEAS

Fantasy Springs Resort Casino is located in between the beautiful Santa Rosa and Chocolate mountain ranges in the Palm Springs Valley. The area boasts wonderful stories of celebrities, pioneers and now, entrepreneurs. Many people ask what there is to do around Palm Springs. One quickly discovers it's difficult to do everything in the area in just a few days. Whether visitors come to Fantasy Springs for gaming, golf or to enjoy the surrounding area, it offers something for everyone.
Ideas you may want to consider if your assignment brings you to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and the Palm Springs, CA area.

  • "Fantasy Springs Resort Casino is a short drive from Palm Springs. What is there to do if someone is staying there?” Besides gaming, playing golf, dining, taking in A-list entertainment, guests can get an in-room or cabana massage, visit the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, go for an ATV tour through the desert, visit the nearby famed Joshua Tree National Park, go shopping at the Rodeo Drive of Palm Springs – El Paseo and much more.
  • “Palm Springs has often been known as the playground of Hollywood celebrities. Do Hollywood-types frequent your resort?” Do they ever! Celebrities can be spotted often at Fantasy Springs and at Eagle Falls Golf Course. The resort hosts several high profile and charity tournaments throughout the year that feature celebrity golfers. The hotel and restaurants have also been frequented by Playboy Playmates, musicians and more.
  • “Plan a Nearby Southern California Getaway.” The price of gas still fluctuates and with the economy still uncertain, many people are looking for a less-expensive alternative to a far-away destination resort. Fantasy Springs Resort Casino has it all in terms of the ultimate destination resort. Palm Springs, CA boasts an average 354 days of sunshine and Fantasy Springs features an inviting oversized pool and sundeck surrounded by palm trees. Guests can have drinks and lunch served to them as they bask in the warm desert rays. Room rates are affordable at Fantasy Springs and visitors get to skip the long drive to Las Vegas and the gas money it takes to get there.
  • Award-winning chefs at Fantasy Springs. Several of the best chefs in the Palm Springs area can be found in the kitchens at Fantasy Springs. Executive Chef, Freddy Rieger, loves to share his east coast charm, and his recipe secrets. You just have to ask him nicely.
  • “Who Are the Winners?” Fantasy Springs features 2,000 slots, 40 table games, the Bingo Palace and the Triple Crown Room. Big winners are made every day in the casino. Find out what players use as good luck charms. Slots and table games are also using cutting edge technology, many times without the player even noticing. Take a look at what the tech and data does.
  • “Someone in my group doesn’t gamble.” Many people would rather receive entertainment in a form other than gaming. For those not attracted by the whirr of the slots or excitement of the tables, they can take in a concert, listen to live music, “yuk it up” at the Fantasy Springs Improv Comedy Club, play golf, get a massage, enjoy a gourmet meal, relax by the pool, do some wine tasting at the 12th Floor Wine Bar & Cocktail Lounge, take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up 8,500 feet to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, go for a hike, or just watch and in-room movie.

If you would like to pursue any of these story ideas or any others, please contact Ciara Green:ccoyle@fantasysprings.net, Public Relations Manager.

Mexico-native and California transplant Alfonso Gomez rose to recognition in the U.S. while competing on the hit reality TV show “The Contender” on NBC in 2004. He ranked third of the show’s 16 fighters that were competing for a one million dollar cash prize. Gomez is an intense fighter who has taken on some of the toughest fighters in the sport, Shawn Porter, Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Jesus Soto Karass. Most recently, Gomez won via unanimous decision over Ed Paredes at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino, Las Vegas in July and hopes to add another win to his record when he meets Kamegai on March 20.

Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, Yoshihiro Kamegai began his professional career nearly 10 years ago and quickly became known as a fast and sly slugger, scoring knockout after knockout. He made his U.S. boxing debut in 2011, securing a victory over Hector Munoz at the MGM Grand and most recently scored a knockout victory over Oscar Godoy in December at the same venue. Kamegai, a relative newcomer in the U.S. boxing scene, first captured the American audience and critics’ attention when he fought two-division world titlist Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero in a vicious brawl last June that garnered considerable ‘Fight of the Year’ interest. Kamegai will make his sixth U.S. appearance on March 20 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in his toughest match to date against former world title contender Alfonso Gomez.

Ronny Rios made his professional debut six years ago and has quickly racked up wins and a tough reputation along the way. A familiar face at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Rios has won all but his most recent surprising loss in a vicious battle against Robinson Castellanos at the venue. He makes his return March 20 with great determination and hope to show his fans and boxing critics that he is a mainstay in the sport.

Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico’s Jesus “Kalaka” Navarro is a seasoned fighter ready to take on Rios on March 20.  A professional since 2006, the Mexican brawler has had a successful career in his native country and is now making his second appearance in the U.S. after facing contenders like Julio Barraza, Jesus Lopez, and Francisco C De Vaca.  In his first fight of 2015, Navarro hopes to add another win to his record and get back on track to a title match.

Irish national champion Jamie “The Nuisance” Kavanagh has a natural talent and knack for the sport, having competed since age 11 only a year after he first set foot in the ring. After racking up medals in international competitions, Kavanagh made his way to the U.S. and made his professional debut at Madison Square Garden in May 2010, with an impressive win over William Ware after just two rounds. 2014 was a good year for Kavanagh as he secured quick wins against Andres Navarro and Michael Clark and hopes to continue the winning streak when he makes his third appearance at Fantasy Spring Resort Casino on March 20.

Featherweight rising star, Abraham Lopez, of La Puente, Calif., first laced up the gloves at age six, and hasn’t put them down since. Lopez, started off his professional career in 2008 with a first round technical knockout of Albert Soto and continues to thrill fight fans with his impressive style.  Most recently the undefeated fighter faced Gabriel Tomlmajyan winning via unanimous decision on March 16.  On March 20, Lopez will put his undefeated record on the line once again in hopes to one day get a shot at a world title.

Born and raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Juan Carlos “El Pez” Martinez is a seasoned fighter still looking for his shot at a title.  Having fought over 36 fights in his career and most recently facing contenders like Edner Cherry, Alejandro Perez and Jose Pedraza, “El Pez” has proven to be a feared contender in the sport. Going the distance in most of his fights, Martinez has the experience and the stamina to give anyone a tough fight and on March 20, Martinez hopes to out-box La Puente’s Abraham Lopez.

Riverside, Calif. native Albert “Baby Dynamite” Herrera is a super welterweight prospect looking to add a win to his record when he returns to the ring on March 20 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. A professional since 2009, Herrera has fought some of the division’s toughest fighters including current world champion Demetrius Andrade and tough contenders Alan Sanchez, Javier Molina, Thomas Dulorme and Aaron Martinez.

AMERICAN LEGENDS, THE O’JAYS RETURN TO THE FANTASY SPRINGS STAGE ON MARCH 21ST

February 17, 2015 – INDIO, CA – The O’Jays are living legends creating decades of R&B music and on Saturday, March 21st the American treasures return to the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center for a night of chart-topping hits.

Their body of work spans a whopping 24 Top Ten smashes and 59 total charted songs, incredibly energetic and dynamic live shows, Olympian vocals and social and political impact on generations and nations. But doing things slowly is not Eddie Levert, Sr., Walter Williams, Sr. and Eric Nolan Grant’s modus operandi. After 40 plus years making such international hits as "Back Stabbers," "For The Love Of Money," "Darlin' Darlin' Baby," "Love Train," "I Love Music," "Use Ta Be My Girl" and "Have You Had Your Love Today," The O'Jays are light years away from easing up on the gas.

There have been “four faces” of the O’Jays. This vocal group from Canton, Ohio originated with Eddie Levert, SR., Walter Williams, SR., William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles and they were named after Cleveland DJ Eddie O’Jay. Isles left the group in 1965. Massey left to become a record producer in 1971 and Levert, Williams and Powell continues as a trio. Powell retired from touring due to illness in late 1975, passing at the age of 35 in 1977 and was replaced by Sammy Strain, formerly with Little Anthony & The Imperials. Strain returned to his former group in 1993 and was replaced by Nathaniel Best. After the departure in 1995 of Nathaniel Best, Eddie Levert, SR. and Walter Williams, SR. reached out to Eric Nolan Grant, a gifted vocalist who was already a part of the group’s extended Cleveland-based musical family. Their chart-topping album “Love You To Tears” marked Grant’s first appearance with the group.

Coming off a first round technical knockout win against Tijuana’s Jorge “Pantera” Silva on Feb. 7, former WBA Interim Super Lightweight Champion Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano is ready to continue his winning streak and give fans an explosive night of boxing when he faces Juan Carlos Abreu on Feb. 27. A stellar contender out of Tlalnepantla, Cano is one of Mexico's best hopes for future world title honors.  An experienced battler who has taken on tough fighters like Sugar Shane Mosley, Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi and Johan “El Terrible” Perez, Cano is ready to go the distance in 2015 and become a world champion again.

A professional since 2011, Juan Carlos “Merengue” Abreu, of the Dominican Republic has quickly risen up the boxing chain winning the IBF youth junior lightweight title early in his career.  At just 27 years old, the hard punching fighter has gotten a reputation as a knockout artist winning all but one of his bouts via knockout.  Most recently, Abreu fought and quickly won fights against Basilio Silva and Ruddy Acasio winning both bouts via knockout before the fourth round.  This former champion is looking to move up the ranks to boxing’s elite when he faces former World Champion Pablo Cesar Cano on Feb. 27.

Seven-foot-tall heavyweight Taishan, has garnered a lot of attention for being one of the most imposing fighters in his division.  His two professional bouts thus far have proven that there's substance behind the hype as he's knocked out both Alex Rozman and Tommy Washington Jr., getting fight fans even more excited for the 26-year-old Beijing native's first fight of 2015 on February 27.

A member of the Westside Boxing Club in Los Angeles, 18-year-old lightweight Nick Arce is a former amateur standout who entered the pro boxing world in style in November of 2014 with a fourth round knockout of Adalbert Valenzuela. Now he will attempt to make it two straight as he competes in one of the sport’s most competitive weight classes.

A gritty competitor who hopes that his first professional win over Francisco Javier in January was the sign of good things to come for his career, Lyonell Kelly will step through the ropes once more on February 27 to face the unbeaten Nick Arce. At 23, Kelly has a bright future ahead of him if he can upset Arce and string some wins together.

A two-time Olympian for his home country of Brazil, Everton Lopes won 240 bouts as an amateur, earning gold at the 2013 Pan American Games as well. On February 27, the talented 26-year-old southpaw will make his professional debut in a super lightweight bout against an opponent to be named, and he will have a nation behind him now and in the future as he pursues a world title.

Popular southpaw Neeco “The Rooster” Macias knows how to attract a crowd and the 23-year-old super welterweight will look to add to his win total and fan base when he takes on an opponent to be determined in a six-round fight.  A professional since 2013, Macias is coached by his father Al and this family affair has resulted in seven consecutive victories without a loss, including an October 2014 stoppage over Roberto Crespo at Fantasy Springs.

Undefeated bantamweight star, Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete, will make his third appearance at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino looking to continue his undefeated status.  A professional since 2013, the newcomer already has seven wins to his name, quickly climbing the ranks and becoming a feared fighter.  Most recently, Negrete faced Salvador Perez in a four-round bantamweight bout.  Negrete knocked down the Fresno based fighter in the second round for a technical knockout win.

A talented prospect who is fearless in his willingness to take on all comers, Fernando Fuentes has faced four unbeaten foes as a professional thus far, and that pattern will continue on Feb. 27 when he takes on Oscar Negrete. Fresh off of a sixth round technical knockout of Erick Aguirre last October, the 20-year-old wants nothing more than to get 2015 off to a winning start.

An amateur standout who once competed for the Mexico City Guerreros in the World Series of Boxing, Coachella’s Alex Rivera made quite an impression in his first professional bout in July of 2013, knocking out C.J. Leveque in the first round. Now back in the ring and looking to make a run at the big time, Rivera is hungry for a victory on Feb. 27.

Coached by respected former NABF champion Danny Perez, Escondido’s Matt “El Matador” McKinney is a former San Diego State University student who hopes to make some noise in the heavyweight division. Standing at 6’5’’, McKinney is unbeaten in two professional bouts, most recently decisioning Tamas Long in a December 2014 bout.

Cano vs. Abreu is a 10-round welterweight bout promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona Extra, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Mexico, Live It To Believe It! and Golden Ram Group.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m., and the first bell rings at 5:30 p.m. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT.

January 28, 2015 – INDIO, CA – When four young men were cast in the television roles of a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night, few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would make on music and pop culture at large, an impact that still reverberates nearly 50 years later. The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork make their Fantasy Springs Resort Casino debut on Friday, March 27th.

Assembled in Los Angeles in 1965 by Robert "Bob" Rafelson and Bert Schneider for the television series The Monkees, the quartet of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and the late Davy Jones brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway, and country to their music. The show itself, meanwhile, paid tribute not only to The Beatles, but also to the comedy stylings of The Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy as well as the pop-art sensibilities of Warhol and the emerging San Francisco psychedelic scene.

The Monkees’ first single, “Last Train to Clarksville,” was released in August 1966, serving as advance publicity for the series. When the group’s self-titled debut album arrived in stores a month later, it quickly headed for the top spot of the Billboard charts, where it would ultimately sit for 13 of the 78 weeks it remained in the Top 200. (Two decades later, in the midst of a new burst of Monkeemania, The Monkees popped back onto the charts, bringing the total number of weeks to 102.)

By the time the group’s TV series aired its final new episode on March 25, 1968, the Monkees had seen three further albums top the charts – More of the Monkees, Headquarters, and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd., all of which were released in 1967, staggeringly enough – while racking up several more hit singles, with “I’m a Believer,” “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” “The Girl I Knew Somewhere,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” “Words,”  “Daydream Believer,” “Valleri,” and “Tapioca Tundra” all finding their way into the Billboard Top 40.

After the series’ two-season run, the group went on to star in the cult feature film HEAD (co-written by Jack Nicholson) and a TV special (33 1/3 Revolutions per Monkee) while also continuing to record new material, but much as the ‘60s gave way to the ‘70s, the members of the Monkees eventually gave in to their individual musical interests and went their separate ways… for awhile. In February 1986, after MTV broadcast a marathon of The Monkees, Dolenz, Jones, and Tork reunited for a 20th anniversary tour, with Nesmith joining them onstage for the Los Angeles date of the tour, and in 1996, all four members of the group reunited for a new album (Justus) and TV special (Hey, Hey, It’s the Monkees).

Tickets for the 8PM The Monkees show are on sale Friday, January 30th for $29, $39 and $59 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 16) - On February 27, Mexicali’s Diego De La Hoya (8-0, 6 KOs) makes his move up to fight in his first eight-round bout in the evening’s co-main event when he faces Los Angeles’ Manuel “Suavecito” Roman (17-3-3, 6 KOs) at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif.  Plus, Chinese heavyweight sensation Taishan (2-0, 2 KOs) opens up the FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes telecast in a four-round bout against Roy McCary (3-2, 3 KOs) of Houston. Also, newcomer Nick Arce (1-0, 1 KO) competes in his second professional match in a four-round super featherweight bout hoping to make airwaves and undefeated Oscar Negrete (7-0, 3 KOs) will compete in non-televised six-round bantamweight bout, both against opponents yet to be announced.

In the previously announced main event, IBF Bantamweight World Champion Randy “El Matador” Caballero (22-0, 13 KOs) will defend his title for the first time against Alberto “Metro” Guevara (19-2, 7 KOs) of Mazatlan, Mexico.

“Golden Boy Promotions has for years developed the future stars of boxing – and that proud tradition will continue on Feb. 27,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions.  “Just as we worked with Randy Caballero from the beginning and helped him become a champion, I’m confident that many fighters appearing on Randy’s undercard are headed for similar success.”

Tickets for the event, priced at $105, $75, $55, $45 and $35 are on sale now at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

With boxing fans around the world waiting to see what he could do in the ring, 20-year-old Diego De La Hoya (8-0, 6 KOs) has yet to disappoint; impressing audiences from the time of his professional debut in 2013 with poise, power and exciting style.  In 2014, the Mexicali native put together six wins, four by knockout and after defeating the likes of Miguel Tamayo and Ali Gonzalez, he’s looking forward to stepping up even more this year as he begins competing in eight-round bouts.

Manuel Roman (17-3-3, 6 KOs) of Los Angeles is a tough fighter ready to prove to critics that he is mainstay in the sport.  A professional since 2004 the hard hitting veteran was a former sparring partner to WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz, and also fought Santa Cruz in a title defense bout on the undercard of Mayweather vs. Maidana II.  The last time Roman was seen at Fantasy Springs he went up against hometown favorite and current IBF Bantamweight World Champion Randy Caballero and is looking to return to the venue to take on the rising star Diego De La Hoya.

Seven-foot-tall heavyweight Taishan (2-0, 2 KOs) has garnered a lot of attention for being one of the most imposing fighters in his division.  His two professional bouts thus far have proven that there’s substance behind the hype as he’s knocked out both Alex Rozman and Tommy Washington Jr., getting fight fans even more excited for the 26-year-old Beijing native’s first fight of 2015 on February 27.

Roy McCary (3-2, 3 KOs) of Houston is a rising heavyweight boxer who has gone up against the hard hitting Mario Herendia and Eric Newell.  Looking to continue to build a reputation, the newcomer will face Taishan hoping for victory in February.

A member of the Westside Boxing Club in Los Angeles, 18-year-old lightweight Nick Arce (1-0, 1 KO) is a former amateur standout who entered the professional boxing world in style in November of 2014 with a fourth round knockout over Adalbert Valenzuela.  Now, he will attempt to make it two straight as he competes in one of the sport’s most competitive weight classes.

Undefeated bantamweight star, Oscar Negrete (7-0, 3 KOs), will make his third appearance at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino looking to continue his undefeated status.

January 6, 2015 – INDIO, CA – Multiple Grammy-winning recording artist Natalie Cole breaks new ground with her first Spanish-language album, “Natalie Cole En Espanol.” The accomplished R&B, jazz vocalist and now Latin singer heads to the Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday, February 14, 2015.

In this Spanish record, her first new studio album in five years, Natalie revisits the rich repertoire of ageless Latin standards that once opened new vistas for her father, the late Nat King Cole. The 12 lushly orchestrated tracks, produced by Rudy Perez, Billboard’s Latin Music Producer Of The Decade, features Natalie’s distinctive take on some classics from her father’s catalog, plus several other carefully chosen selections from the Latin American Songbook. The album features a haunting father/daughter duet on the sensual bolero “Acércate Mas,” employing the same recording techniques used for their posthumous pairing on 1991’s “Unforgettable,” which won Record of the Year for the singer and producer David Foster. This project, which Natalie has envisioned for at least the past decade marks a stunning accomplishment for an artist who has never before sung in Spanish.

Ten years after her father passed, Natalie won the first of her nine career Grammy Awards as Best New Artist of 1975, the year she debuted with the hit “This Will Be,” which also won for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female. In 1977, Cole scored a No. 1 R&B hit with "I've Got Love on My Mind" from her third release, Unpredictable, which became her first platinum album. Cole continued her winning streak that same year with her fourth album, Thankful, which also went platinum and featured another signature hit, "Our Love."

The singer expanded her success with her own TV special in 1977. It was the first of more than 300 major television appearances in her career, including dramatic roles on "Law and Order" and "Touched by an Angel." In 1979, Cole was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After overcoming personal challenges, Cole returned in peak form with 1987's Everlasting, an album which garnered three hit singles: "Jump Start (My Heart)," the Top 10 ballad "I Live For Your Love," and her dance-pop cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac."

Cole marked a career milestone in 1991 with the release of Unforgettable…With Love, featuring the celebrated duet with her late father, Nat King Cole. The album spent five weeks at No. 1 on the pop charts, earned six Grammy® awards, and sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.

Tickets for the 8PM Natalie Cole performance are on sale now for $79, $59, $39 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

December 30, 2014 – INDIO, CA – Six decades into one of songwriting’s most successful and honored careers – marked by 48 Top 10 hits, nine #1 songs, more than 500 compositions and a landmark 50+year run on the charts, Burt Bacharach’s music continues to set industry records and creative standards. On Sunday, February 22nd, the legend himself will take the stage at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Bacharach’s global audiences span several generations, and he is viewed as the unique combination of one of the greatest composers of all time and the ultra-cool cult hero of the contemporary music set who often has several songs on various music charts in many countries simultaneously.  He tours the world conducting orchestras with his own musicians and singers performing his music at his sold-out concerts.

Along with Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon, Bacharach is a legend of popular music. His songs have been recorded by singers, such as Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. Other tributes to the diversity of Bacharach’s music have been paid by, among others, Elvis Costello (“I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” and “God Give Me Strength”), REM, Diana Krall, Barenaked Ladies, Sheryl Crow, Wynonna Judd and Mike Myers.

A recipient of three Academy Awards and eight Grammy Awards (including the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award and 1997 Trustees Award with collaborator Hal David), Bacharach revolutionized the music of the 1950s and 60s and is regularly bracketed with legendary names, ranging from Cole Porter to Sir George Martin, as one of a handful of visionaries who pioneered new forms of music from the second half of the 20th Century and continued into the 21st Century.

New for 2014, Chuck Lorre one of television’s most successful sitcom writers, Tony award-winning lyricist and writer Steven Sater are joining Bacharach and Elvis Costello to create a musical based on the artists’ 1998 album “Painted From Memory.”

Although his first love remains writing, Bacharach feels performing is another bonus of his illustrious career. He continues to do scores of concerts around the world each year.  He is one artist who will always remain in the limelight no matter what endeavor he pursues.

Tickets for the 8PM Burt Bacharach performance are on sale now for $69, $49, $29 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 22) – After piling up 12 wins in 12 fights at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., hometown hero Randy “El Matador” Caballero (22-0, 13 KOs) went on the road in search of a world championship.  On October 25, it was mission accomplished for “El Matador” after he defeated England’s Stuart Hall in Monte Carlo. On Friday, February 27, the conquering hero returns to Indio’s Fantasy Springs Resort Casino to defend his IBF Bantamweight World Championship for the first time against Alberto “Metro” Guevara (18-2, 6 KOs) in a 12-round homecoming bout, presented by Golden Boy Promotions and televised by FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.

“This is a night I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and I always said that the only thing better than winning a world title at home would be defending it there,” said Caballero. “I’m going to be tough and impress my fans at Fantasy Springs.”

“Randy Caballero is a good, young champion and he’s fighting in his backyard, but I feel like this is my time,” said Guevara. “I like being the underdog, and that will make my victory sweeter on February 27.”

“The fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino have watched Randy Caballero grow up as a fighter, so after he won a world title, our first order of business was bringing his first title defense back here,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President and Founder of Golden Boy Promotions. “It’s going to be a great night and a celebration of an exciting young champion, but Alberto Guevara knows what it’s going to take to beat Caballero, and he’s going to give everything he has to take the title.”

Tickets for the event, priced at $105, $75, $55, $45 and $35, and go on sale December 26, at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

A former amateur star, Randy “El Matador” Caballero (22-0, 13 KOs) has been a fighter to watch ever since his amateur days, and once he turned professional in 2010, he lived up to all of the hype. He dominated his opposition both at home and abroad. A former WBC Youth Intercontinental and NABO champion, Caballero earned a shot at a world title in April by stopping Kohei Oba in eight rounds in Kobe, Japan and in October he defeated Stuart Hall via unanimous decision in Monte Carlo to win the vacant IBF crown. On February 27 the 24-year-old puts his belt on the line for the first time.

A professional fighter since 2009, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico’s Alberto “Metro” Guevara (18-2, 6 KOs) is a rugged warrior who battled his way up the bantamweight ladder, earning his first shot at a world title in 2012. Guevara lost a hard-fought decision to Leo Santa Cruz, but two wins over Jose Tirado and Jonathan Vidal put him right back at the top of the class. On February 27, following a hard-fought world title bout with Shinsuke Yamanaka, the 24-year-old Guevara hopes the third time is the charm against Caballero.

December 8, 2014INDIO, CA – As the funniest, freshest face on television, Amy Schumer is on the rise in the world of comedy with her blend of honesty, and unapologetic sense of humor. On Saturday, March 28th, she dishes out hysterical comedy on the Special Events Center stage at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Schumer is the creator, star, writer and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated Inside Amy Schumer, the popular Comedy Central television series which premiered in April 2013 to the network’s highest season premiere ratings of the year. The show will return for a 3rd season in April 2015.

This past summer she completed production on Universal’s Trainwreck that Schumer wrote and will star in alongside Bill Hader, Tilda Swinton and Brie Larson. Judd Apatow will produce and direct the feature film that is scheduled to be released in July 2015.

Schumer’s hit one-hour stand-up special, Mostly Sex Stuff, became Comedy Central’s second-highest rated special in 2012.  She was also one of the featured comedians on Comedy Central’s Roast of Roseanne, which followed her memorable and quotable performance on the 2011 Roast of Charlie Sheen. She was recently seen in such critically acclaimed series as FX’s Louie and HBO’s Girls. Previously, Schumer had a recurring role on the third season of Adult Swim’s Delocated, and guest starred in the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

On the big screen, Schumer filmed the feature Seeking a Friend for the End of the World starring Steve Carrell and Kiera Knightley, as well as Price Check, an independent feature opposite Parker Posey which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

Her album Cutting placed in the top 5 of the Billboard Charts and has been included on multiple Best Comedy Albums of the Year awards’ lists.

The comic made her network debut in 2007 when she starred on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and soon after co-starred on 30 Rock and received her own Comedy Central Presents special.

“Gratitude and joy, gruffness and beauty balance each other perfectly in singing that has grown more rhythmically acute with each passing year.” (The New York Times)

His initial successes came via a string of Columbia singles in the early 1950's, including such chart-toppers as "Because of You," "Rags to Riches," and a remake of Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart." He had 24 songs in the Top 40, including: "I Wanna Be Around," "The Good Life," "Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)?” and his signature song, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco," which garnered him the first two of his 17 Grammy Awards. Tony Bennett is one of only a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and 10’s. He introduced a multitude of songs into the great American Songbook that have since become pop music classics.

THE LEGENDARY PAUL ANKA RETURNS TO THE STAGE AT FANTASY SPRINGS IN JANUARY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - DECEMBER 1, 2014
CONTACT: SARAH HAHNE
760.342.5000 x 85873
shahne@fantasysprings.net

December 1, 2014INDIO, CA – Paul Anka skyrocketed to fame in the late 1950s and 1960s with hit songs like "Diana", "Lonely Boy", and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder". He went on to write such well-known music as the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, one of Tom Jones' biggest hits, "She's a Lady", and the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song, "My Way". On Saturday, January 10th, the legendary performer will take the stage once again at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Anka first achieved success in the 1950s as a teenage singing star who also wrote many of his own songs. Although he appeared in several films, his main interest was music and he concentrated his efforts into composing and making nightclub appearances in Las Vegas. Songwriting and performing “are what gave me the confidence to keep going,” he says. Becoming a junior associate of Sinatra and the Rat Pack also had its privileges. By the ‘70s, the success of “My Way” and a string of hits like “(You’re) Having My Baby” confirmed his iconic status. Since the inception of his career, Mr. Anka’s songs (BMI Statics) have been performed well over 90 million times.

His later achievements as a recording artist included “Hold Me ‘Til the Morning Comes,” a hit duet with Peter Cetera in 1983, the Spanish-language album Amigos in 1996, and Body of Work, a 1998 duets album that featured Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion, Patti LaBelle, Tom Jones and daughter Anthea Anka. If this wasn’t enough, it was revealed upon its release in 2009, that Anka co-wrote Michael Jackson’s posthumous #1 worldwide hit, “This Is It,” which has further cemented his place upon the most prolific and versatile songwriters of any generation. He received the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has been named the 18th most successful artist in Billboard history, putting him alongside music greats, Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Anka’s two most recent albums – Rock Swings and now Classic Songs, My Way – ingeniously featured songs originally created by some of the biggest rock performers of the day – as well as other established artists across several genres.

The twist: Paul Anka did the songs ‘his way.’ His goal: “taking great songs and rework them so they’re natural for me.” With the help of his five daughters, Anka spent months researching music from the ‘80s and ‘90s, trying to find the songs that would work in the radical new context he proposed. The songs that made the cut included Bon Jovi’s “It’s

My Life,” Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven.” Even more dramatic were his transformations of “Wonderwall” by Oasis, “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

On November 15, 2011, Anka released his first Christmas album in decades. Songs of December featured lush romantic versions of popular Christmas songs such as “Let It Snow”, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”.  All were recorded with a full orchestra in the renowned Capitol studios and sung by a music legend.  It is a true holiday classic.

In April 2013, Anka released his New York Times Bestselling autobiography, published by St. Martin’s Press, entitled My Way.  This autobiography is a remarkable story of a decades-long career as an entertainer, actor, and songwriter.  During the same time, his new 14-song album entitled Duets was released by Sony Music Entertainment and featured artists such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Tom Jones, Celine Dion, and Michael Bublé (who Anka was with from the start of his career as well as co-producer on his self-titled album in 2003). Duets provides a musical journey through the life and times of Paul Anka and will include heartfelt liner notes written by Anka himself as an introduction to the classic songs he and his collaborators have chosen. Duets set a milestone in Billboard Chart history because with the CD, Anka became the only artist to have a CD on the Billboard Top 100 Chart for seven consecutive decades.

In 2014, Anka saw the release of a song he co-wrote with Michael Jackson entitled “Love Never Felt So Good” off of Jackson’s album Xscape.  As lead song off of Jackson’s CD and its first single, it has received massive radio, sales, and critical success and has already reached #1 in over 50 countries!

Tickets for the 8PM Paul Anka performance are on sale Friday, December 5th for $79, $59, $39 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

December 1, 2014INDIO, CA – Back by popular demand, Pop music legend Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are returning to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.  The mega-hit making group is scheduled to take over the Special Events Center stage on Saturday, January 24, 2015.

Frankie Valli, who rose to fame in 1962 as the lead singer of the Four Seasons, is hotter than ever in the 21st century. Thanks to the volcanic success of the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys, which chronicles the life and times of Frankie and his legendary group, such classic songs as “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” are immensely popular all over again.  The play is entering its tenth blockbuster year on Broadway, and while other casts perform Jersey Boys around the world, the real Frankie Valli continues to pack concert halls.

Valli has sold over 175 million records both as a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Four Seasons. Valli’s first taste of national exposure came in 1962 when he and The Four Seasons performed their single “Sherry” on American Bandstand. The performance took the nation by storm propelling the group to their first #1 record and making them a household name. The hit train continued to roll for The Four Seasons in 1963 and 1964 as they went on to produce several more #1 hits.

After much success with The Four Seasons in the first half of the ‘60s, Valli released his first solo effort in 1967, Frankie Valli: Solo. The album contained the classic hit “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” He would go on to produce nine Top 40 hits and two #1 singles, “My Eyes Adored You” and “Grease.” From the success of his first studio album in 15 years, Romancing the ‘60s, Frankie Valli is as big as he was in 1962 and not looking to hang up the microphone anytime soon.

Tickets for the 8PM performance go on sale Friday, December 5, 2014 for $59, $49, $29 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

LOS ANGELES (NOV. 11, 2014) - Local rising stars Joseph Diaz Jr., Julian Ramirez, Diego De La Hoya and Roy Tapia, as well as seven-foot tall international sensation Taishan, held a media workout at Ponce De Leon Boxing Club in Montebello, Calif. in advance of their bouts at Fantasy Spring Resort Casino this Thursday night on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.

Here is what each of the fighters had to say about their respective bouts:

JOSEPH DIAZ JR., Undefeated Featherweight Rising Star

“I’m very excited to be on this great card on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes as the main event. The whole card features future stars, so I’m excited to be back at Fantasy Springs.

“I know that my opponent is very tough, but that’s what I want to show everyone; that I’m fighting tough opponents. I’m going to be aggressive on Thursday because that’s what fight fans want to see.

“Thanks to Golden Boy Promotions I’ve been staying busy and active throughout 2014. In 2015, I would like six or seven fights and to continue fighting tough opponents.”

JULIAN RAMIREZ, Undefeated Featherweight Rising Star

“I’m ready for Thursday. Hopefully the knockout comes, but I won’t force anything, if it comes it comes. I’m going to give it my all Thursday. I just want to please the crowd and give everyone a great show.

“All I know about Pedro Melo is that he’s good. He’s a boxer and has a good jab, so I’m ready for that and for anything he brings.

“It’s been a good year for me, it’s my fourth fight, so I’m staying active and getting the wins. I’m fighting at 10-rounds now and winning.

On his weight class: “I think Guillermo Rigondeux is the best and most skilled in my weight-class. Lomachenko is also one of my favorites, but he needs to be more aggressive in my opinion. I also look up to Jhonny Gonzalez, Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz. I want to be up there with all of them.”

DIEGO DE LA HOYA, Undefeated Featherweight Prospect

“I’m well prepared. Training camp has gone great and the most important thing is that I’ve got a winning mentality. I’m just waiting for Thursday to come.

“I’m very happy about this year because I’ve kept very busy. Golden Boy Promotions has done a good job at getting me fights often, so I’m staying active.

“I’m very excited to fight at Fantasy Springs again, especially because my fans and family from Mexicali will be there to cheer me on.”

ROY TAPIA, Junior Featherweight Prospect

On Thursday my plan is to work the body as much as I can. This camp has been the best one yet. I’ve been at 100 percent because I started when Jesus Cuellar and Juan Manuel Lopez were in camp, so I was able to spar with Cuellar. I’m on weight for Thursday and ready to go.

On Thursday expect a lot of head movement and aggressiveness. I’ll be working the body a lot. Like a pit bull, once I got them I won’t let them go.

“I’m very grateful to Golden Boy Promotions. I hope they and the fans love my crazy style and that I work my way up to fighting on TV.”

TAISHAN, Undefeated Heavyweight Prospect

“Training has gone very well. I feel confident with my new coach, Buddy McGirt, and I feel confident with myself.

“I’m very excited about my second professional boxing fight. I’m well prepared and I’m looking forward to it.

“Because of my height and size I hope to bring something different for boxing fans.

On choosing boxing over MMA or wrestling:“I loved boxing and always watched matches in China. But I never had the chance to learn about boxing and become a true student of the sport until I came to the U.S.

INDIO, CALIFORNIA (October 29, 2014) – Three undefeated Mexican warriors are headed to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California on the Thursday, November 13 edition of Golden Boy Live! when Joseph Diaz Jr., Julian Ramirez and Diego De La Hoya square off against Roberto Castaneda, Pedro Melo and Ali Gonzalez, respectively who are looking to add losses to the records of the undefeated trio of boxing’s most promising rising stars. While seven-foot Chinese sensation Taishan will open up the televised portion of the card against Michael Lane on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.

Plus, there's more in store for fans in attendance on November 13, as newly crowned IBF Bantamweight World Champion Randy "El Matador" Caballero will be in attendance to celebrate his unanimous decision victory over Stuart Hall on October 25.  Fantasy Springs, Caballero's home away from home, is the only place to be on November 13 for a night full of boxing action and celebration of a local hero.

In the main event on the 13th, unbeaten former U.S. Olympian Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (12-0, 8 KOs) will square off with Mexicali veteran Roberto Castaneda (21-7-1, 15 KOs) who will look to test the resolve and experience of Diaz Jr. in their 10-round featherweight bout. One of the most experienced 23-year-olds in the sport, Castaneda has been keeping busy in the ring since his professional debut in 2009 and while he has had his ups and downs over the last year, a win over Diaz Jr. will get him back on track as 2014 comes to a close.

Facing East Los Angeles’ Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez (12-0, 7 KOs) in the eight-round featherweight co-feature event, Tijuana’s Pedro Melo (11-5-2, 2 KOs) is a 26-year-old brawler who is looking to get back to the same form that resulted in a 2012 knockout over respected prospect Juan Jimenez. On November 13, Melo hopes to walk away with a similar win over Ramirez.

Scheduled for six rounds in the featherweight division, Diego “The Golden Kid” De La Hoya (7-0, 5 KOs) will take on Tijuana’s Ali Gonzalez (6-3, 1 KO) who looks to spoil De La Hoya's perfect record.   After winning three of his last four bouts, the 27-year-old southpaw, Gonzalez, is more confident than ever that he has what it takes to pull off the upset at Fantasy Springs next month.

In the televised opener, the seven-foot heavyweight power-puncher Taishan (1-0, 1 KO) will enter the ring for his highly anticipated second professional fight. Taishan will be taking on Michael Lane (0-3) in a four-round bout. Widely considered one of the most interesting fighters in the sweet science today, fight fans are in for a rare glimpse Taishan in action when he laces up the gloves on November 13 to face the hard luck Lane. The rugged Lane has seen each of his three losses go to the judges’ scorecards, proving he can exchange blows and go the distance. However, Taishan hopes to take this one out of the judges’ hands by walking away with his second professional knockout.

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 16, 2014) – They are four of the most unique personalities in boxing today, but what the headliners on the Thursday, Nov. 13 edition of FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes’ Golden Boy Live! series all share is respect throughout the sport as rising stars with world championship potential. Fight fans will be in for a treat at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, when Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr., Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez, Diego “The Golden Kid” De La Hoya and Taishan all take to the ring in their own pivotal bouts that will push them to the limit.

In the 10-round super bantamweight main event, 2012 U.S. Olympian Diaz will look to follow up last month’s spectacular headlining win over Raul Hidalgo with another defining performance against an opponent to be named.

In the eight-round co-main event, 21-year-old featherweight phenom Ramirez is back in action, with 20-year-old super bantamweight De La Hoya competing in a six-round bout and seven-foot Chinese sensation Taishan will open the telecast in a four-round heavyweight contest. Fight fans are in for a rare treat as Nov. 13 will be just the second bout of Taishan’s highly anticipated professional career.

Opponents for Diaz, Ramirez, De La Hoya and Taishan will be announced shortly.

Tickets, priced at $25, $35 and $45, go on sale this Friday, Oct. 17 at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

“The future of boxing has never been brighter, and the four young men lacing up the gloves on Nov. 13 are among those carrying the torch from one generation to the next,” said Oscar De La Hoya, president and founder of Golden Boy Promotions. “Fans will get to see scintillating action from fighters in a full range of weight classes, all of whom have two things in common – they represent the future of our sport, and none have ever tasted defeat.”

A member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, South El Monte’s Joseph Diaz Jr. (12-0, 8 KOs) is rapidly displaying the skill and poise to not just match his amateur successes, but surpass them. Just 21-years-old, Diaz is gearing up for his third 10-round fight, and since his impressive victories over Ramiro Robles and Raul Hidalgo, Diaz is more than ready for another test on Nov. 13.

The great nephew of the late former world champion Genaro Hernandez, 21-year-old southpaw Julian Ramirez (12-0, 7 KOs) has boxing in his blood, and he’s been on the fast track ever since he turned professional in 2012. A dynamic fighter with all of the tools to succeed, Ramirez is coming off of his third win of 2014 when he faced Ricardo Hernandez on Sept. 27, and he’s hungry for another victory.

Another fighter with boxing running through his veins is 20-year-old Diego De La Hoya (7-0, 5 KOs), the cousin of “The Golden Boy” himself, Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya. Already sporting seven wins in a little over a year as a professional, the Mexicali native has become a favorite at Fantasy Springs where he will make his fifth appearance this Nov.

Hailing from Beijing, China, seven-foot tall Taishan (1-0, 1 KO) is one of the most intriguing fighters to enter the ring in years. After his impressive second-round technical knockout of Alex Rozman in his professional debut in July, he showed that he’s not just a great story, but a great young man with the potential to one day shake up the heavyweight division. The former kick boxer and mixed martial artist was a highly respected amateur boxer who moved to the U.S. to take his career more seriously and improve his prospects of defeating the best competition. He’ll get the chance to showcase his dominance of the professional ranks again on Nov. 13 at Fantasy Springs.

The Nov. 13 edition of Golden Boy Live! is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona Extra, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Golden Ram Group and Mexico – Live It To Believe It!. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the first bell rings at 5:15 p.m. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.
